Reducing Stress
Much of our stress is caused by the busy lives we
lead. Here are some useful tips to help reduce your stress:
Breathing Exercise
How we breathe effects our body. Deeper breathing can
produce calming results but like any technique it needs to be practised
before hand., so that you can use it in a situation which maybe
stressful to you i.e. an interview. When stressed there is a tendency
to tense muscles especially around the shoulders and deep breathing can
help.
Relaxation
There are many CD's and tapes available ranging from
soothing music to ones which use visualisation techniques. Taking time
to do even one thing specifically for yourself may help with managing
stress.
Professional Massage
Massage therapy can be very beneficial for stress relief. If
you are not used to spending time relaxing this may be difficult at
first. Many massage therapists use aromatherapy oils, which are also
beneficial.
Take some Exercise
Buy a reliable pedometer and record your daily steps, build
walking into your day even walking up stairs rather than taking the
lift will help. The official recommendations are 10,000 steps but aim
to improve your fitness overall by keeping a weekly log. Park your car
further from the office or shops and enjoy the satisfaction on
improving your daily steps and overall fitness. Try a new sport, make
certain you do something you will enjoy.

Counselling, can help by spending time with someone
who is trained to listen, by encouraging greater self awareness. This,
followed by commitment , motivation and a wish to change can work to
identify the causes of your stress and explore better ways of coping
with it. This may include looking at negative self beliefs and
challenging them.
